Abstract

Kemangi leaf is a plant that has natural antioxidant benefits and basil leaves are also used as an alternative treatment for cancer. The study below aims to determine the presence of antioxidant activity by the DPPH method and cytotoxic T47D breast cancer cell extracts of basil leaves (Ocimum americanum Linn). The extract was obtained through maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent. Antioxidant activity was tested by the DPPH method as a free radical model. Antioxidant ability was measured by decreasing the absorbance of DPPH at a wavelength of 514 nm after the addition of extract using a UV-Visible spectrophotometer and cytotoxic tests were performed using T47D breast cancer cells and Vero cells with the MTT assay test method and read the absorbance on the ELISA reader. The results showed that the basil leaf extract had antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 39,771 µg / ml and had a cytotoxic activity against T47D breast cancer cells with an IC50 value of 59.84 µg / ml.
