Abstract

This paper describes the methodology and evaluation of the first year implementation of UI (University of Indonesia) GreenMetric Ranking of World Universities. In 2010 University of Indonesia spearheaded a new university ranking system based on the measurement of the campus sustainability. The objective of this ranking is to promote green and sustainable policy in campuses worldwide and to acquire the information of best practices from good universities concerning the sustainability issues. This ranking was based on several basic criteria in sustainability in terms of: energy consumption, climate change adaptation measures, waste treatment policy, water management, and a low emission transportation program. It was designed to be suitable for universities in both developed and developing countries. Some important indicators have been developed from these criteria. It was weighted and calculated automatically based on a defined algorithm. This article provides the explanation of the methodology that was used in 2010 and the result of UI GreenMetric Ranking 2010, as well as the problems that were faced within the process.
