Abstract
“Ucon” synthetic lubricants provide interesting and useful products for various applications where their special properties may be utilized to advantage. Both water-soluble and water-insoluble products are available in a wide range of viscosities. These lubricants are of particular interest because of their resistance to sludge and varnish formation, low solvent and swelling effect on various types of natural and synthetic rubber, low pour points, and desirable viscosity-temperature properties. Uses for the lubricants include: lubrication of rubber and rubber-metal combinations, asbestos packings, metals in various forming operations, textile fibers, internal-combustion engines, gears, compressors and vacuum pumps, small electric motors, and various types of mechanical equipment; heat transfer fluids; hydraulic fluids in applications such as machine tools, hoists, aircraft propellers, and door checks. Automotive hydraulic brake fluids, meeting ther equirements of the S.A.E. specification for moderate and heavy duty brake fluids, are formulated with selected lubricants, stable solvents, and inhibitors. A very high viscosity water-soluble lubricant is used in the formulation of new water-base fire-resistant hydraulic fluids of the hydrolube type for aircraft and industrial applications.
