Abstract

The US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has taken a technological step forward by embracing the potential offered by the Internet for implementing the reporting requirements of the Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR). The electronic reporting system is called the Safe Drinking Water Accession and Review System. This system permits laboratories to post UCMR monitoring results and electronically report these data to the regulated public water system (PWS) for review and approval. Once the PWS has approved the data, USEPA and state can review these data as officially submitted by the PWS. The process should be simple as long as the responsible individuals at the laboratories and PWSs understand the basic requirements of the electronic reporting system. This article presents these requirements and informs the laboratory and PWS community of this new reporting vehicle.
