Abstract

This publication presents a new class of cognitive systems designed for analysing visual data. Such systems have been created as the next step in the development of classical intelligent systems DSS (Decision Support Systems), which are currently the most widespread tools providing computer support for medical data. This publication defines and presents a new category of cognitive categorization systems. Our paper presents a new ideas and possibilities of using mathematical linguistic formalisms, in the form of pattern analysis and image understanding, in the development of a new class of intelligent medical diagnosis-support and image recognition systems i.e. Cognitive Vision Systems. Such ideas are aimed at facilitating the cognitive and semantic analysis of the meaning of some selected medical patterns based on the presence of cognitive resonance. When trying to use this cognitive phenomenon and methods to the automatic analysis, interpretation and understanding of image-type data, we propose a new class of cognitive categorization systems: UBIAS (Understanding Based Image Analysis Systems). The procedures proposed are based on the cognitive resonance and categorization model. The application and ideas presented in this paper will show how great the opportunities are for automatically detecting lesions in the analysed structures for eg. in the foot bone structure.
