Abstract
Conventional method of humidity control using electrical heater is highly energy inefficient. Several methodologies have been proposed to eliminate reheating using heaters. One of the most promising methods is using heat pipe heat exchanger. In the present work, a U-shaped heat pipe heat exchanger has been wrapped around cooling coil such that the heat extracted from the incoming air, by the evaporator portion of the U-shaped heat pipe heat exchanger is used to reheat air by rejecting heat in the condenser portion of the heat exchanger. An experimental test facility for U-shaped heat pipe heat exchanger has been set up to conduct an experimental study. The experimental sensible heat transfer effectiveness of the heat exchanger is coming out to be in the range 0.22−0.42. The performance of heat pipe heat exchanger has also been compared with the simulated results using off-design performance prediction software.
