Abstract

U.S. CongressHouse Republicans have been talking about dismantling the Commerce Department, but they have been split on what to do with its various components. Last week, they finally agreed to lump Commerce's science and technology agencies into a new National Institute for Science and Technology. The plan still faces many hurdles, however, including Senate indifference and a presidential veto.
