Abstract

INTRODUCTION IN rilE 19 papers submitted to this Session No. 2, Tyres/Wheels and Tracks, six separate topics can be identified. These relate primarily to mechanical properties of tyres, vehicle-terrain interface relationships, and resulting trafficability problems. The papers and associated topics are classified as follows: mechanical properties of tyres/wheels and tracks, [35, 37, 45] ~, field and laboratory test procedures for terrain materials [49], effect of wheels and tyres on terrain [36, 39, 42, 53], effect of tracks on terrain [40, 51, 52], mobility, vehicle-terrain interaction [38, 41, 43, 46, 47, 48], durability and maintenance procedures of tyres /wheels , tracks and vehicles [44, 50].
