During the typhus epidemic at Belsen in 1945, at least 14 of them contracted the disease. This provided an opportunity to observe naturally acquired epidemic typhus in persons who had received Craigie typhus vaccine. The primary purpose of this paper is to describe the clinical course of their illness with data on their previous inoculations and serologic responses.In the same epidemic, there were 16 cases of typhus among Hungarian soldiers who were inoculated with Craigie vaccine after exposure to the disease.
