Abstract

Methods for typesetting chemical structural formulae are described, where the picture environment of the well-known text formatter TeX/LaTeX is used to incorporate the formulae into manuscripts. Macros were designed for typesetting carbocycles and heterocycles, in which the designation of substituents and bonds is simplified by applying the list-treating mechanism of TeX/LaTeX. These macros extend the range of structures printed with TeX/LaTeX, since they permit 10 or more substituents which have not been treated by previous methods.
