Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research aimed at investigating types of leisure motivation, leisure satisfaction, leisure patterns, health status, demographic backgrounds, and the relationship between these and current leisure. A cross-sectional study by recruiting 199 university students showed that intrinsic leisure motivation is the single greatest predictor for leisure satisfaction, even after controlling for elementary and high school leisure, extrinsic leisure motivation, and perceived stress. Social support moderated the impact of high Body Mass Index (BMI) on active leisure, indicating that university students with high BMI did not tend to engage in active leisure in the presence of high perceived social support. Also, they were more likely to engage in passive leisure in the presence of low-stress levels. This research provides a new insight into leisure patterns depending on health status with an emphasis on BMI interacting with stress and social support.
