Abstract

Most of the central-european species of the genus Euphorbia were checked for the type of photosynthetic CO 2 -fixation by analysis of a. the 14 CO 2 -fixation pattern; b. the CO 2 -exchange; c. the presonce of a Warburg-effect; d. the CO 2 -compensation point; e. the (δ 13 C-value; f. the activity of the PEP-carboxylase, the NADP + -specific malate-dehydrogenase, and the NADP + -specific malic enzyme. In addition, the leaf anatomy of some species was studied. It turned out that all species belong to the C 3 -type of photosynthetic CO 2 -fixation, except E. humifusa Willd. and E. maculata L., which are C 4 -plants. These two species are not native to central Europe, but introduced from Asia and N-America respectively.
