Abstract

Summary. The combination Tylophora cuspidata (K. Schum.) Meve & Omlor (Apocynaceae, Asclepiadeae) is made, based on Oncostemma cuspidatum K. Schum. This is needed because of the rejection of Tylophora oblonga N. E. Br. against 0. cuspidatum. The monotypic Oncostemma K. Schum. (1893) was described from material from the West African island of Sao Tome. After re-examining type material of its only species, Oncostemma cuspidatum K. Schum., Meve & Omlor (2000) reduced Oncostemma K. Schum. to the synonymy of Tylophora R. Br. (Asclepiadoideae: Asclepiadeae-Tylophorinae). Oncostemma cuspidatum was found to be synonymous with Tylophora oblonga N. E. Br., a well-known and widespread (Liberia to Ethiopia), herbaceous to woody twiner of forests (Omlor & Meve 1999, Meve & Omlor 2000).
