Abstract
One of the first American labor unions to make significant use of the television medium was Transport Workers Union Local 100, based in New York. Under the leadership of its aggressive president, Michael J. Quill, the TWU was a familiar presence on New York television from 1950 to the time of Quill’s death in 1966. The extensive TWU collection at the Tamiment Library/Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives reveals the scope of the union’s highly successful media campaign during this period.
