Abstract

This paper presents three two-way molecular communication schemes. For molecular communication via diffusion (MCvD) channels, several inter symbol interference (ISI) mitigation and modulation techniques are proposed in the literature for one way communication channels. An obvious generalization to two-way communications is to double the molecule types which increases overall complexity. Furthermore, self interference (SI) is another problem in two-way communication when transmission and reception is done with the same type of molecules. In this paper, three novel methods for two-way communications over the MCvD channel that diminish the effects of ISI and SI by using at most two types of molecules are proposed. Their advantages and drawbacks are examined and bit error rates (BER) are obtained using Monte Carlo simulations.
