Abstract
Two-way bilingual education is the marriage of bilingual education for language minority children and immersion education for language majority children. Because the two-way bilingual education model promotes academic achievement and language proficiency in two languages for both language majority and language minority students in the same classroom, it has generated considerable interest in the United States. This chapter will first define the two-way bilingual education model, discuss early developments of the model, and then present some of the research and practice issues that pertain to two-way bilingual education.
