Abstract

Simultaneous radiation of two quanta of the multipolarities L 1 and L 2 in the transition of the nucleus are considered. The formulae are obtained for angular correlations, the shape of the quantum spectrum and total probability of two-quantum nuclear transitions. It is shown that the shape of the spectrum does not depend on the parity of the quanta and is determined only by the multipolarities of the quanta radiated when there are no levels close to the initial level of the nucleus. If there are such levels the shape of the nuclear spectrum depends on the matrix elements of the nuclear radiation operators L 1 and L 2. The results obtained contradict earlier conclusions. It is shown that the assumptions used to reach those conclusions are too rough and distort the picture quite essentially.
