Abstract
In a previous study (Yao et al, 1997), a direct eveluation of distributive mixing performance in a new type of pin mixing section based on the kinematics of mixing, i.e., local and integral mixing efficiency, was carried out. The calculated local mixing efficiency can quantitatively identify the regions where mixing is good and those where it is not. Furthermore, the calculation of integral mixing efficiency and its distribution in a mixer based on the results of local mixing efficiency allowed a quantitative comparison of a mixer with various configurations. In this study, to justify the results obtained above, dynamic analysis to quantify distributive mixing in the pin mixing section, i.e., tracking the evolution of trajectories of particles and calculating the standard deviation of particle concentration distribution, is carried out.
