Abstract

The actual interest of two-dimensional (2-D) digital filters is pointed out as resulting from several reasons: high efficiency for image processing and analysis, great application flexibility, large expansion of standard computers and minicomputers or special type processors at decreasing cost. Some non-recursive and recursive 2-D digital filters are described. Efficient 2-D non-recursive digital filters of FIR type using suitable window functions (Cappellini windows) and fast 2-D recursive digital filters obtained through a suitable rotation and stabilization procedure are presented. Efficiency comparisons are developed considering ripple values and transition-band width. Some applications to image processing are finally shown.
