Abstract

The extended method of solution for two-dimensional crack problems is discussed. The first proposed method has been the combination of near-tip solution and boundary element method with point symmetry. A domain to be analyzed is devided into two regions: the near-tip region, which is circular in shape and centered at the crack-tip, and the outer region. The displacements and stresses in the near-tip region are represented by the truncated infinite series of the eigenfunction with unknown coefficients. The stress intensity factors of mode I and mode II are represented by one of the corresponding coefficients, respectively The outer region is formulated by the boundary elements. Using the domain decomposition method, this method is extended from the point symmetry problem to the problem without symmetry. The slant edge cracked rectangular plate under a uniform tension is treated and the calculated dimensionless stress intensity factors are in good accuary.
