Abstract

In this paper we generalize the induced-interaction equations to calculate quasiparticle interactions and scattering amplitudes for an arbitrary, two-component Fermi liquid. An application of this formalism to a two-band electron system, with relevance to heavy-fermion physics, will be subsequently presented in another paper. We include a review of the Landau theory for an arbitrary, charged two-component Fermi liquid with arbitrary Fermi momenta. This review includes equilibrium, dynamic, and transport properties. In the weak-coupling regime, it is shown how the results obtained from the random-phase approximation agree with Landau theory.
