Abstract

Photographs obtained at the Schmidt focus of the 2-m telescope of the Tautenburg Observatory have been used for B and V photometry of the cluster of galaxies A 2634 over a total area of 2./sup 0/6 /times/ 2./sup 0/6. The density of field galaxies was determined using the same plates. The cluster has a core of a high density of galaxies, beyond which there is a formation in the form of a halo. The Butcher and Oemler parameter f/sub B/ for the galaxies brighter than M/sub V/ = /minus/19.8 is 0.07. The unusual change of slope is not observed in the cumulative luminosity function. There appear to be a lot of flattened galaxies in the cluster.
