Abstract
We investigate a decomposition of the interactions within a baryon into two-body forces and three-body forces corresponding to the one-gluon vertex and the three-gluon vertex of QCD. In a consistent computation within the framework of lattice QCD we find that the total potential of a three-quark system can be reproduced remarkably well by two-body forces up to intermediate distances of about 0.5 fm.
