Abstract

Concrete is one of the most widely used materials in infrastructure. Concrete ensures the overall quality, structural safety and performance of the building. However, concrete is often corroded by the external environment in the process of use. This corrosion can cause concrete to crack, loosen, and reduce strength. Therefore, how to reduce concrete corrosion is a key topic. This study introduces two kinds of high-performance concrete to illustrate function principles and application status. Cement-based materials have high compressive strength but have the disadvantages of low tensile strength, poor crack resistance and high brittleness. The “composite” method is adopted to add fibers to the cement to change its performance. A series of cement-based composite materials, such as fiber-reinforced concrete, high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious concrete, and engineered cementitious composites (ECC) are new high-performance cement-based composites in recent years. EPS concrete is a kind of concrete that uses polystyrene particles to partially substitute traditional aggregate. It has light heat preservation and fire resistance. ECC is a high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composite material. By fundamentally eliminating concrete brittleness, it has opened a new world of applications in bridge decks and other structures.
