Abstract

Two cases of spleic aneurysm were recently encountered. Case 1, a 74-year-old female, presented a hypoechotic mass about 2cm in diameter in the hilus of the spleen in abdominal ultrasonography. Selective abdominal angiography revealed a saccular aneurysm (2.3 × 1.8 cm) at the point of the splenic artery branching in the hilus. The lesion was excised with the spleen. In case 2, a 46-year-old female, a hypoechotic mass about 3.5 cm in diameter was noted near the tail of the pancreas by abdominal ultrasonography. CT scanning with contrast medium delineated a mass near the tail of the pancreas between the stomach and the spleen. The mass was identified as being a saccular aneurysm (3.5 ×3 cm) in the main branch of the splenic artery by selective abdominal angiography. The lesion was excised with the spleen and the tail of the pancreas. Splenic aneurysm is a relatively rare condition, with only 121 cases reported in Japan. However, because of imporvements in abdominal ultrasonography and CT scan as well as angiography, reports of this disease are expected to increased.
