Abstract

Two semantic differential studies were carried out, each with 60 subjects evaluating various lighting systems in scale model rooms. The prior work of Flynn finding an evaluation, a clarity and a spaciousness factor was confirmed. Room type-living or waiting room -had no effect on reactions to the lighting. No differences were found between subjective reactions to incandescent and fluorescent sources. Various specific lighting system effects were found in terms of use of a multiple lighting system, high and low illumination levels, peripheral vs. central lighting, shapes of luminaires and uniformity of lighting.
