Abstract

Bonham's sale catalogue no. 26247 (1) listed: ‘A South Arabian striated alabaster stubby Pyxis, with lid and pierced lug side handles, and a five‐character inscription incised below the thick neck on both sides, lst‐3rd Centuries A.D., overall height 4in. (10cm.)’. Inside the pyxis, but not mentioned in the catalogue, was a polythene bag containing a small‘hoard’of coins and some metal casting waste. The hoard and pyxis are illustrated in Fig. 1.
