In a lullOur able helmsman engagingThe rudder, steered the heavy ship silentlyAnd I—full of trust and carefree,Sang to the sailors… suddenly the womb of the seaWas crushed by a whirlwind raging…And died the pilot and every sailor!—Only I, the mysterious singer,Thrown ashore by nature's rift,Sing the ancient hymns,And my wet things,I dry in the sun under a cliff.
