Abstract

We investigate the defocusing imaging effect of a two-pupil interactive system and discuss the synthesis of 3D optical transfer functions (OTFs) from defocused 2D OTFs. Through analytical and simulation results we show the synthesis of 3D OTFs, using as examples two spatially separated Gaussian pupils, and two superposed Gaussian pupils apodized by complementary Fresnel zone plates. Simulation results indicate the low frequency de-emphasis of the obtainable 3D OTFs.
