Abstract

The operational features of a two-pump fiber parametric amplifier cannot be matched by a conventional, single-pump device. New degrees of design freedom can be used to construct a gain-equalized amplifier operating over a broad spectral range. The two-pump device is characterized by four parametric bands that can be used for flexible, unimpaired signal conversion. Orthogonal-pump multiplexing in birefringent highly nonlinear fiber is shown to result in a polarization-dependent parametric response.
