Abstract

1. In analysis of the stress-strain state of rocks in the neighborhood of a development working it is necessary to distinguish zones of inelastic deformations and of “breakage.” Because at great depths the development of displacements of the surface of the working cannot really be withstood, it is necessary to design the supports for these displacements. The loads on the support are determined only by the state of the material in the zone of “breakage” and in the first instance by the dimensions of this zone. 2. In analysis of the state of the rocks in the neighborhood of a development working with allowance for changes of depth and the possible influence on extraction operations on the state of the working, it is necessary to take account of the form of the state of stress in conformity with the parameter (23) and to estimate the role of areas with tangential stresses T, T1, and T2 on which shears develop to breaking point. For this purpose it is important to take account of the difference between the initial state of stress and the hydrostatic state and to know the strength standards of the rocks under triaxial loads.
