Abstract

Single-port surgery causes relatively little stress to patients, and it has aesthetic advantages in that it leaves a small scar. On the other hand, it is stressful for the surgeon to perform, and because the surgical technique is limited by the constraints of the procedure, there is a risk that the quality of the surgery itself may be compromised. Uterine myomectomies, in particular, require complex suturing and more delicate manipulations than some other kinds of surgery. In an attempt to address these conditions, we developed a two-port surgery that would add one auxiliary port to the one usually used in single-port surgery. This report describes our actual experiences with applying this new technique to laparoscopic myomectomy. We also contrast the hemi-lateral and diamond port placement widely used in conventional surgery with the new port arrangement in our two-port technique, discussing their operability.
