Abstract

The two-photon ionization spectrum of Xe 2 in the region of the first ionization threshold is presented. Vibronic bands corresponding to at least four different autoionizing electronic states of Xe 2 are observed for the first time and are tentatively assigned. The observed appearance potential is significantly higher (by 415 cm −1) than the earlier single-photon ionization result (C.Y. Ng, D.J. Trevor, B.H. Mahan and Y.T. Lee, J. Chem. Phys. 65 (1976) 4327).
