Abstract

We report on the fine structure selective observation of 3P J oxygen atoms using two-photon resonant degenerate four-wave mixing spectroscopy (TP-DFWM) in the forward folded BOXCARS configuration. The oxygen atoms are generated in a microwave discharge from mixtures of molecular oxygen with helium and neon. The nonlinear optical character of the method allows to determine directly inside the discharge the relative oxygen atom yield while varying gas mixture or pressure. Absolute number densities are determined by calibration via NO 2 titration.
