Abstract
An experimental search was made for two-photon emission following π − capture on carbon. Using the photon angular correlation calculated for the dominant (π − p → γγn) mechanism, the upper limit on the branching ratio is found to be 1.4 × 10 −5 at a 90% confidence level. This result suggests that the virtual pion content of carbon is not significantly enhanced over the incoherent sum of the pion fields of individual nucleons.
