Abstract

Two phonon Raman spectra of Ge xS 1−x (x = 0.25, 0.33, 0.37) and Ge xSe 1−x (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.33) are reported, and the local structures of these glasses are discussed by the comparison of the first and the second order Raman spectra. The absence of the combination tones with the S 8 ring vibration suggests that S 8 ring molecule exists isolately. Companion A 1 band of GeS 2 is shown to combine with S-S stretching vibrations.
