Abstract

In order to treat the weak and the electromagnetic processes in a unified way, we propose an empirical rule for SU(3) symmetry breaking by introducing two angles. It is shown in the weak interaction that semi-leptonic decays of mesons can be well explained once an angle is introduced. In particular a ratio Γ(K±→π0e±νe)/Γ(KL0→π±e\mpνe) is in remarkable agreement with experiment. Our theory also leads to a prediction different from that of Cabibbo's theory concerning the decay processes KL0→K±e\mpνe and η→π±e\mpνe. In the electromagnetic interaction we show that high energy photoproduction of vector and pseudoscalar mesons and leptonic pair decay of vector mesons are also explicable with this model. From the analysis we can numerically fit the tangent of these angles to the ratios of meson masses; that is, for the weak interaction and for the electromagnetic interaction.
