Two new steroidal alkaloids with cytotoxic activities from the roots of Veratrum grandiflorum Loes.

Abstract

• Two new steroidal alkaloids were obtained from roots of Veratrum grandiflorum Loes. • Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic techniques. • Compounds 3 , 4 exhibited moderate cytotoxic effects against four cancer cell lines. Two new steroidal alkaloids, Grandivine A and B ( 1 and 3 ), together with eight known related compounds were obtained from the roots of Veratrum grandiflorum Loes. The structures of the compounds were elucidated though extensive spectroscopic techniques. Compounds 3 and 4 exhibited moderate cytotoxic effects against four cancer cell lines.
