Abstract

Sciadiocara serrata Wang, 1966, is transferred to Ancyracanthopsis Diesing, 1861. S. legendrei Petter, 1967, is considered a synonym of S. umbellifera (Molin, 1860) Skrjabin, 1915. S. secunda Skrjabin, 1915, is unidentifiable. Sciadiocara cucullatus (Wehr, 1934) comb. n. and S. umbellifera are the only species described to date which are accepted in Sciadiocara. S. rugosa sp. n. from the Florida duck, Anas platyrhynchos fulvigula, is characterized by its rugose cuticle near the anterior end, by spicule size (right 120 t, left 360 to 380 It), and by length of pharynx (85 to 90 ,u in male). S. chabaudi sp. n. from the common gallinule, Gallinula chloropus cachinnans, and the American purple gallinule, Porphyrula martinica, is characterized by its rugose cuticle near the anterior end, by the presence of 8 pairs of preanal papillae, and by length of pharynx (110 IA in males). During a survey of the helminths of the Florida duck, Anas platyrhynchos fulvigula, three of 78 ducks were found to be infected with an undescribed species of schistophorid (Kinsella and Forrester, in press). A total of two males and two females were found under the koilons of the gizzards. The following description is based on these specimens. The worms were fixed in alcohol and cleared in lactophenol for study. All measurements are in microns unless otherwise stated. Sciadiocara rugosa sp. n. (Figs. 1-7)
