Abstract

Two species of fungi pathogenic to clove (Eugenia aromatica) are described from the Zanzibar Protectorate. Valsa eugeniae sp.nov. occurs in constant association with clove trees which have died of the Sudden-death disease, and also causes a die-back. Cryptosporella eugeniae Nutman & Roberts is a severe wound parasite of clove trees of all ages, and often causes the sudden death of young trees.
