Abstract

The technical symposium is the heart and soul of Display Week, but the Society for Information Display is also reaching out to attendees with two programs aimed at building careers and community: YES was created to provide a forum in which practicing engineers at the start of their careers can share their post-education experiences and learn from SID peers and colleagues at all levels. “We know that formal education is a necessary and strong foundation for all engineers,” says Radu Reit, chair of the YES initiative, “but there’s so much more to succeeding in the field. With this effort, we will be showcasing the amazing young talent in our community and highlighting their experiences of starting a career in the industry.” As part of its inaugural effort, YES sought out enthusiastic young engineers with five or fewer years of professional experience for interviews and story sharing at Display Week 2019 in San Jose. It also asked engineers with 5 to 10 years of experience to provide their valuable perspective. Join them for a “Starting Your Professional Career” luncheon followed by an informative panel discussion from 12 to 2 pm on Wednesday, May 15, in Room 230C of the San Jose Convention Center. To offer ideas or find out more about YES, email YES@sid.org. The job fair is an opportunity to meet with executives from display technology and related companies, including many of those exhibiting at Display Week. Interviews will take place in the morning and afternoon on Wednesday, May 15 in Room 212. (Morning interviews will be held from 8:00–11:45 am, and afternoon interviews will be held from 1:15–4 pm.) There will also be a reception for YES and Job Fair participants, as well as anyone else who’d like to attend, at 5 pm on May 15 in Room 230C. To register for the job fair, panel, and luncheon, visit www.displayweek.org/2019/JobFair.aspx or stop by the SID membership office in the registration area. SID President Helge Seetzen (center) chats with students at last year’s first-ever Student Job Fair at Display Week. This year, SID’s Job Fair is targeting display professionals at all stages of their careers.
