Abstract

Two new organically templated 3D cerium sulfates have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and thermo-gravimetric analysis. Both of them crystallize in the monoclinic space group P2 1/ c. Crystal data for (C 4H 12N 2) 4[Ce 8(SO 4) 16(H 2O) 8], 1, a=6.673(2) Å; b=9.5861(13) Å; c=22.518(3) Å; β=103.956(2)°, V=3492.8(8) Å 3, Z=2, for (C 2H 10N 2) 2[Ce 2(SO 4) 5(H 2O) 2], 2, a=6.6424(12) Å; b=17.071(3) Å; c=20.509(4) Å; β=94.814(3)°, V=2317.3(7) Å 3, Z=4; The compound 1 exhibits a 3D anionic openframework structure compensated by diprotonated piperazine molecules occluded in the zigzag channels. The compound 2 possesses rectangle eight-membered channels and 16-membered channels, in which the ethylenediamine molecules reside.
