Abstract

This article discusses two manuscripts of the Faits des Romains which bear the heraldic arms of the Italian Angevins, namely Chantilly, Musée Condé, MS 726 and Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), MS fonds français 295. Through close readings of the manuscripts' paratextual features, I will explore their association with the Angevin court, thereby bringing to light the varied ways in which the text was harnessed in support of the dynasty's political and cultural ambitions.
