Abstract

Two new metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), {[Cd(L)(2-NTP)]·0.25H2O}n (1) and [Cd(L)(4-CPA)]n (2) (L = 1,6-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazolyl)hexane, 2-H2NTP = 2-nitroterephthalic acid, 4-H2CPA = 4-carboxyphenoxyacetic acid) were synthesized and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction. The structural analysis reveals that 1 exhibits a 3D framework, which can be classified as a 4-connected sra topology, while 2 displays a 2D (6,3) layered structure. The thermal behaviors, luminescence properties of two compounds are investigated. The luminescence sensing experiments reveal that both MOFs display efficient detection toward Fe3+ ion through fluorescence quenching in the aqueous solution.
