Abstract

Data modeling is a critical stage of database design. For modeling the structure of an object-oriented spatial database system appropriately, in this paper, we propose two levels of spatial object-oriented data models: (1) a spatial object model called SAS; (2) an internal description model. SAS supports spatial object types and their polymorphic operations. And the internal description model suppports efficient and appropriate framework to store spatial coordinates and topology between two spatial objects. Our model frame gives the independence between the thematic division of data and cartagraphic presentation. The paper concludes by discussing implementation stage. The commercially available OODB ObjectStore is used as implematation platform.
