Abstract
READERS WILL see a new heading in this week's Medical News & Perspectives section—From the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment. This is the first report of its kind inJAMAfrom this small but influential office, some functions of which are explained in the editorial on page 550. Also in this week's section, under a different heading (From the Assistant Secretary for Health), is an outline of health objectives for the closing years of this century.JAMAhas carried these secretarial reports for more than a year and a half, but this is the first from the new assistant secretary, James O. Mason, MD, DrPH (JAMA. 1989;261: 3367).—by
