Abstract

Presented here are the structures and characterizations of two borate-/germanate-substituted octadecavanadate compounds {[Zn(en)(H2O)][Zn(dien)]}2[Zn(en)2]2[Ge6V15O48]·2en·10H2O (1; en = ethylenediamine, dien = diethylenetriamine) and [Na3(H2O)4][H3O]9[B18V12O54(OH)6] 4H2O (2). The [Ge6V15O48]12- cluster in 1 is derived from the ball-like [V18O42]12- cluster by replacing three [VO5]6- square pyramids with three [Ge2O7]6- dimers. These [Ge6V15O48]12- clusters are connected by the di-nuclear [Zn(en)(H2O)Zn(dien)]4+ complexes to form a layer. The [B18V12O54(OH)6]12- cluster in 2 is derived from [V18O42]12- cluster by substituting the equatorial [V6O24]24- ring-like moiety with a [B18O36(OH)6]24- one that is composed of six [B3O7(OH)]6- triangles through sharing corner O2- atoms. The [B18V12O54(OH)6]12- clusters are further linked by dimeric {Na2} fragments into a 3D supermolecular framework. Both two compounds were characterized by powder XRD, FTIR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis.
