Abstract

Two excitonic problems are discussed in which strong enough interactions admix states of the conduction and valence bands of the non-interacting theory resulting in unusual states as well as unusual theoretical problems. They relate to the observed ferromagnetism of weakly doped hexaborides and the phenomena in the cuprate compounds.
