Abstract

Two isostructural lanthanide (Ln) compounds [Ln2L4(CH3COO)2(CH3OH)2] (Ln = Gd (1), Eu (2), L-=dibenzoylmethane) have been successfully synthesized and structurally characterized. The two compounds displayed a quadrilateral dinuclear core connected by two ketonic oxygens and each Ln ion was eight-coordinated with two bidentate L ligands, two acetoxy and one methoxy. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements revealedthat a weak antiferromagnetic interaction was existed in compound 1 between Gd(Ⅲ) ions and the maximum −ΔSm was 20.65 J kg−1 K−1 for ΔH = 7 T at 2.0 K; while compound 2 only displayed luminescence properties.
