Abstract

The lack of proper management of solid wastes in modern society poses a threat to groundwater integrity. A two-dimensional transport model was used to predict the level of a set of 12 number contaminant species near Soluos dumpsite by employing alternating direction implicit technique implemented in Matlab 7.9. The model parameters obtained through sensitivity analysis of model parameters of Yadav and Jaiswal were used in this work. The predicted results showed a regular trend of decreasing contaminant concentration as the distance increases from the dumpsite and were validated with the field data from Soluos dumpsite. It was revealed that the two-dimensional transport model predicted above 86% confidence level which is an indication that the model parameters used in this work are suitable for the Soluos dumpsite.
